NHPC holds state level painting competition
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Mudang Anku, class 6 of VKV Ziro and Saikat Paul, class 9 of VKV Chimpu won the first prize in the state level painting competition on energy conservation, 2013 under category ‘A’ and ‘B’ respectively organized by NHPC Limited at Banquet Hall here on November 12 last.
Nyohai Wangjen, class 6 and Piman Rani Wangsaham, class 6 of Rama Krishna Sharda Mission School, Khonsa, Vikash Miroh, class 7 of Donyi Polo Mission School, Chimpu won second and third prizes in category A and B respectively.
The winners were awarded cash prizes. 10 participants from each category were also awarded consolation prizes.
The winners under the category ‘A’ will participate in National Level Painting Competition.
Altogether 50 students from each category were selected for participation in the state level competition.
After giving away the prizes to the winners, education minister Bosiram Siram emphasized on involvement of children as media in energy conservation and hoped that the winners will disseminate information about the need of energy conservation.
Palin on verge of starvation: ZPM
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Palin ZPM Rido Meena has drawn attention of the authorities concerned towards acute shortage of PDS items in Palin area.
In a release, the ZPM said that the people of Palin area in particular and Kurung Kumey district in general were on verge of starvation due to non supply of PDS items since last three months.
Requesting the concern authority for supply adequate rice, the ZPM said that the most sufferers were the government staff, which has directly affected the smooth functioning of offices.
‘Exempt spectrum charges for installation of VSAT in NE region’
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The Peoples Action for Development (PAD) has demanded to exempt spectrum charges for installation of VSAT in the hilly North Eastern states, especially in Arunachal Pradesh.
In its letter to the union minister for communication and information technology, PAD said, “to cater to the present situation in the state and to increase the telecom reach in the state, VSAT installation is necessary in all the interior border blocks and circle headquarters. But the spectrum charges for VSAT installation is very high which is not economically viable, as we know that Arunachal has the lowest population density of 17 persons per sqkm as per 2011 census. Private parties hardly operate in the state and even BSNL is struggling for survival.”

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: More than 400 people attended a daylong free medical cum awareness camp organized by Leporiang Panchayat Youth Welfare Society at Leporiang on November 12.
A medical team comprising Dr Doni Ratan and Dr K Darrang from State Hospital, Naharlagun, Dr Sarmila Tana from Urban Health Centre, karsingsa and Dr Moli Basar from PHC Leporiang along with other para medical staff treated a total of 269 patients from Leporiang area.
House gutted
ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The dwelling house of one Tabi Komut, Head Gam of Napit village under East Siang district has been reduced to ashes in a fire accident on November 11 at around 5.30 pm.
Properties worth lakhs of rupees were also gutted in the fire, informed Yak Ao Welfare Society (YAWS). The cause of the fire is yet not known.
Meanwhile, the Society (YAWS) has provided blankets and other essential items to the victims as an immediate relief.

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) while welcoming the Local Boundary Commission led by retired Justice Tarun Chatterjee, which is currently studying the interstate boundary issue between Arunachal and Assam, today said it would ‘not compromise on an inch of land in Arunachal.’

We have just celebrated yet another Children’s Day. What does it mean to us and the children after whom it is named? The usual programme in most places in Arunachal and elsewhere, is a morning procession of small children shouting ‘Chacha Nehru ji ki jai..’, a few mundane speeches on Nehru as our first Prime Minister, and distribution of some toffee (the wrappers of which can be seen, for days together, scattered around the area.) To what extent do these efforts touch the lives of the children? Do they make any sense to their parents, or are they ‘involved’ in the celebration/observation of the day? Ever pondered a bit ?
It is just elementary, we feel, that parents and elders are responsible for caring
and guiding the children, to lead them to a bright future. What does it boil down
to? Sending them to a ‘good’ private school, or to tuition 2 hours daily all through
the year, from nursery class onwards? Letting them ride a bike the moment they reach
class 8 ? Pride ourselves in their splashing a 3” broad mobile, with wires hanging
down their ears all day? For our teenaged daughters, admiring their courage in walking
down the roads in the most stunning dress? We thank our stars that our children,
like us, do not have to walk days to reach school, live in poorly-

The Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority celebrated the Day with presence of nearly 300 students and faculty members of the Good Shepherd Public School, Pappu Nallah, Naharlagun by organizing a symposium on the concept of Child Rights, Provisions of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, availability of legal aids and services to the children in particular under the Legal Services Authorities Act,1987 and the various programmes and the activities being undertaken by all the legal services authorities in the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
The programme was addressed by Budi Habung, Member Secretary of the State Authority cum Dist & Session Judge, Yupia; Dani Belo, Under Secretary, law and Judicial,Govt of Arunachal Pradesh/ OSD,State Authority, Advocates Deepa Yoka and Sum Darrang.

Childline Itanagar in collaboration with 138 Bn CRPF celebrated Children’s Day by organizing a Health Camp for children.
The programme organized at Don Bosco, St. Mary’s Parish, Itanagar was attended by over 350 children from various schools, including kids of Don Bosco Literacy Centre and Bosco Primary and children from different sectors and colonies of Itanagar.
Attending the celebration, Michi Paku, SP, Jail, asked the children to enjoy their childhood and congratulated Childline and Don Bosco for taking up the cause of the children.
Ram Kishan, Commandant, CRPF, 138 Bn. appreciated the work done by Childine under the aegis of Don Bosco and promised all assistance for such activities.
Like previous years, the students of Green Mount School also celebrated Pandit Nehru’s birthday with great enthusiasm.
Yumlam Minu and Techi Mema, Councillors of Ward No 12 and 13 respectively were special guests of the function and distributed the prizes to the students, who had excelled in various events held in the school.

He appealed to the toppers and the entire students of the area to study hard and bring laurels to the area.
“Every child is important and there should not be any discrimination between girl and boy child,” he said and requested all the parents to provide equal education to every child on the day.
Attending the celebration. SP Tumme Amo asked the students and youths to not stray around and be sincere and dedicated towards their studies. He appealed them to not use drugs and other addictive substances which will destroy their lives.

The children of the said orphanages performed cultural items for the team of the only FM station of the state and shared some light moments with the team. With the ambition of becoming an engineer, doctor and singer, most of the boys of the orphanages seemed very determined and the beautiful girls of the orphanages seemed obvious with medical as their career option.
During the visit, the team also handed over sweets and collectibles donated by the caring denizens of the city to the three orphanages.

Organized by Sanskar Bharti Arunachal Pradesh unit, the event will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the country.
Addressing media persons during a press conference at Press Club today, Amirchand, Organizing secretary, Sanskar Bharati All India said, “We lost many of our precious soldiers during that war, so with this event it is our way of remembering those martyrs who gave their precious lives for our today.”
He informed that some of the family members of the martyrs are also coming to the state to participate in the event.
Talking of the significance of ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logo by Lata Mangeshkar’ and ‘Koto Jovanar Mritu Hol by Bhupen Hazarika’, dedicated to the war martyrs, which also completes its fiftieth year, he said, “these two songs helped a lot in instilling a feeling of patriotism into the minds of the people.” Singing competition on the two immortal songs will be held during the three day event.
Cultural troupes from all over the NE states will participate in the event.
The mega event will also see Shehnayi player Dr Rajendra Prasanna, Classical (Dhrupad) singer Ustadd Nafeesuddin Dagar and Aneesuddin Dagar performing live, while actor Mukesh Khanna who plays the famous role of superhero Shaktimaan will come down to grace the event on its closing function.

Admin must keep pace with needs of people: Tuki
TIRBIN, Nov 14: Administration must keep pace with the needs of the people to address core issues that agitate the minds of common people, said Chief Minister Nabam Tuki.
Addressing a huge after inaugurating a double storied EAC office building, electrical subdivision, electro mechanical and Electrical Civil Subdivision of Hydro Power department amid applause here yesterday, Tuki said that Arunachal is a 100% tribal dominated state and all strata of people in the state should maintain a peaceful co existence. Since 90% of the people of the state depend on agriculture, an ambitious agriculture and horticulture policies has been launched by the Govt. to uplift the economic condition of the farmers. He informed that under CM’s Agriculture Farm Mechanized programme farmers are provided tractors, power tillers, pumping sets, rice haulers and fencing materials etc. in subsidized rate.
Tuki said that the Food Security Bill passed by the Govt. will soon be introduced and essential commodities will reach to the needy family. But this should not dissuade our hard working farmers to depend only on such facility only, Tuki cautioned. He also informed that the state Govt. has entered into agreement with insurance company to start a health insurance and urged the people to avail the opportunity.
He disclosed that Centre has sanctioned 55 roads to the tune of Rs.1200 crores to do away communication bottleneck in the district.

Correct syllabus at the earliest
Dear Editor,
We on behalf of all B.Com & B.Sc students of the state extend hearty thanks to “Mr. Amar Sangno” for raising our voice through his article “Bulky Syllabus Creates Panic among College Students” published in your esteemed daily dated the 12th November, 2013.
It pains our heart that we are the first batch of this newly introduced semester system for the students of B.Sc and B.Com first year, yet our career is not considered while prescribing syllabus of ‘English Compulsory Paper’. In almost all universities the contents of syllabus of semester system are just 50% of that of annual mode. As in annual mode a student has one year whereas in semester system a student gets hardly six months for preparation of examination. We appreciate that this has been done by RGU as well in context of all the other subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics and Commerce. In these subjects, the syllabus has not changed; it has been rightly cut short to 50% only. But to our great surprise and shock, the syllabus of compulsory English has not only been made lengthier, bulkier and more difficult than the previous syllabus of annual mode rather the contents of Unit ‘A’ & ‘D’ are quite irrelevant for our career as four prose pieces and a bulky drama ‘As You Like It’ by William Shakespeare, have been prescribed in these two units besides retaining almost all the contents of previous annual mode syllabus. In Unit ‘E’ also there is no specific topics mentioned.
What creates panic among B.Sc &B.Com 1st year students of the state is the fact that
the new syllabus of Compulsory English Paper under Semester system retains almost
all the contents of the previous syllabus of Annual mode-
We are anguished that it was the duty of the University to prescribe a good and relevant
syllabus caring for our career. In fact there was no need for changing the syllabus
as the previous syllabus of annual mode was very good and simply that could have
been retained as happened in case of other subjects. Those who don’t know how to
design syllabus should not pretend to be over smart to play with our career. Our
teachers submitted representation duly forwarded by the Principal opposing the new
bulky and bad syllabus for immediate correction in August itself. We waited for more
than three months that University would correct, modify and restructure the syllabus
in the interest of career of students. But till date nothing has been done by the
University. We don’t want to waste our time in studying works of literature which
does not have any relevance in our career building. Instead, we want to study such
items which can help us in developing our English language as well as helping us
in various competitive examinations. For this, it is essential that in Unit ‘A’,
‘D’ and ‘E’ also topics like essay writing, letter writing, paragraph writing, précis
writing are prescribed to replace Drama and Prose pieces through bifurcation of Unit-
As our term-
We cannot suffer innocently and silently only because of the mistakes of some people who were chosen by the university to make the syllabus of Compulsory English Paper. If University waits for another one year to correct that mistake of so called BUGS, our career will simply be ruined as we have examination in December only and hardly 20% of the syllabus has been taught to us, simply because it is too lengthy and bulky. It must be corrected immediately to give justice to the students of B.Sc. and B.Com first year of the state.
When syllabus of all other subjects has rightly been reduced by 50% than that of annual mode, ironically the syllabus of English has been made lengthier, bulkier and tougher than the syllabus of even annual mode. There is panic situation among innocent students and their career is at stake as they fear to fail in English because of too bulky syllabus.
Can University and those who were assigned the task of designing the Syllabus, answer our Questions?

Looking forward for justice as nobody can justify that a semester syllabus can be doubly bulkier than even the annual mode syllabus.

There should be respect for all the streams

There is something very wrong with the education system of our country.
Educational system works like a factory. In the process, the child is being viewed as just a product of the system. The emphasis that should be laid on the personal growth and development of the child has been overlooked. Capacity for convergent and divergent thinking, effective interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively, has been undervalued. To date, the Indian educational system is obsessed with producing individuals who conform. Independent thinking is discouraged as against conformity and passivity. It is unfortunate that today education instead of reforming the human behavior, in my humble opinion, appear to have failed to achieve its objective. Instead we find troubled atmosphere in the society at large, which calls for immediate reformation with the efforts of one and all. In comparison to earlier times, the literacy level has increased but it did not result in better human value which calls for transformation in the education system.
Unlike countries like America, where a child undergoes a psychology test in the beginning to check his bent of mind and is asked to follow the field which he likes the most, there is no such test in India. We run towards any field which we feel will give us a job. Today, there is an IT boom in India, it’s offering a number of jobs, and so everybody is seen pursuing computer science engineering or a small certificate course (say .NET or JAVA or other Computer courses). Can the govt. of India justify this situation? Today, when one is asked “Why an MBA?” (in personal interviews for admissions), he comes up with different answers given by coaching institutes just to hide the main reason. Trust me, more than 90% of students don’t have any other reason but MONEY, immaterial of their interests they jump into this course and end up becoming “just a manager” who ends up saying “my life sucks!” If Sachin Tendulkar would have been asked to become an Engineer or if Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam would have been asked to become a dancer, can you think of their performance? The point that I am trying to make out here is that every child should be given the liberty to choose a career of his/her choice. Perhaps then his efficiency would increase by more than 100% accounting to a better quality service to nation.
And also there should be respect for all the streams. It always does not have to be:

B.Com-
Hotel Management-
A Degree in Music-
Is this how it is supposed to be? Students at the school level need to be educated regarding the kind of streams that exist and what importance each of them plays to make an economy diverse. I would say even the adults who make such comments should be counseled about the importance of each and every degree and its scope all over the globe. Students should be encouraged to take up the streams according to their interests and come out with flying colours in that line; and the crowd around should not let them down but treat them equally. Trust me, every career has numerous opportunities, you can excel if you are good at it!

People of state bearing brunt of Congress party’s misgovernance

The proposed “Vikash Rally” by the Congress Government itself is making mockery of
their more than three decades misgovernance in Arunachal Pradesh. At present whatever
problems faced by the common people of the State is because of the Congress party’s
misgovernance. Traditionally, the people of Arunachal Pradesh were of high moral
values, ethos and just, however, because of the money culture of the Congress some
of the indigenous people of the state has been made corrupted. Therefore, the prevalent
rampant corruption practiced in the state is transplanted by the high commands of
the National Political parties. Arunachal Pradesh is still most backward in the
country not because of lack of resources but because of the deliberate policy of
the Central Government after 1962 Indo-
People of Arunachal Pradesh in general and capital city in particular had to pass their darkest phase during the leadership changed in Congress party in year 2011. Therefore, the PPA demands that the Congress Government should directly own responsibility for backwardness and lawlessness of Arunachal Pradesh. So, instead of “Vikash Rally” the Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and Congress leaders of Arunachal Pradesh should tender apology to the people of Arunachal Pradesh

Sachin is true example of how the sportsperson can become role model for youngsters. In North East sportspersons like Olympic medallist MC Marykom and football legend Bhaichung Bhutia are idolized by many youngsters. For the troubled region, these sporting heroes are true inspiration. In our state due to lack of proper infrastructure sports has never grown. Infact many budding sportsperson get disenchantment due to lack of support system. There is urgent need to properly groom the young talent, so that they bring laurel for state as well as country.
